I consider myself a 90’s kid but since I only experienced the decade for the first 5 years of my life, the early 2000 is where the true nostalgia lies.
The Vibe
This playlist covers some of the hits roughly from 2000-2005 (and a few 1999 bangers tossed in) predominantly in the R&B / Hip Hop genre.
As an only child growing up with a single mother, she was my best friend. We were on hard times but the tunes were bumpin’, I can say that much.
I experienced a lot of difficult situations at a young age that not even
Nelly’s “Ride Wit Me” could save me from.
My mother wasn’t perfect, but she did the best with what we had.
After she passed in 2006, listening to early 2000’s music makes me feel closer to her. Should I have been singing the lyrics to Eminem’s “Superman” at the age of 6?
Probably not, but I am thankful that I had an abnormal childhood
as it shaped me into the person I am today.
This playlist is for the kids who grew up with burn holes in their baby blankets,
the ones who were up late on a school night “partying” with the adults,
the kids who didn’t think about what tomorrow might bring when
“Try Again” by Aaliyah came on the radio.
